In 1912 the first ever GM trucks were released in the auto market. This is after the successful acquisition of two small car manufacturers. Their first models were characterized with toughness and sturdiness. When the US government asked GMC to manufacture trucks for their military truck to be used in World War I the company stepped up even more in building durable vehicles. The company still takes pride for being the company that helped the government in WWI. They are more proud with the fact that their first ever trucks were sold to the US government and was utilized for the war. A handsome amount of income was also obtained by the company since more that 90% of their fabricated vehicles in 1917 and 1919 were bought by the government.
The early vehicles of GMC were not instant hit in the market. As a matter of fact a lot of consumers were doubtful at first on this brand. But marketing strategies of the company prevailed. Their winning promotional tricks eventually gained them popularity. They even went as far as promoting their product across the boundaries. The GM truck models were continuously subjected to modifications and alterations to produce more high performing vehicles. In due course the company was able to come up with trucks that can hold more, can function well and tolerate more.
When World War II was on track, GMC was again tasked by the government to create the trucks that they will be using for the war. This time they have to have more vehicles. With that the company was strained to manufacture more trucks in a relatively shorter time. However they were able to pull it of and come up with the required number of trucks just in time. Because of their tremendous effort, the company was soon rewarded with the “E Award”. This is to recognized their effort and hard work. The company was also able to expand in terns of their sales since the award have gained them more patrons by the years 1950′s and 1960′s. They continued with vehicle remodeling so they are soon displaying vehicles that are larger, with more pleasing features and more lavish. It is during this time that they were able to produce more models available in the market, as much as 75. This is also the time when GMC was recognized as the number three among the big manufacturers of trucks internationally.
Recently though because of the ever increasing price of materials and production, GMC has been experiencing difficult times. The cutthroat rivalries in the auto market have added to the agony of the company. However the ever reliable marketing strategies of GMC still prevailed. They were able to counter the difficult times with smart advertising and branding strategies at the same time continuing their vehicle improvement. GM trucks are now known worldwide, they are considered as one of the top choice when it comes to trucks.
